Built around the year one thousand, the Castle of Mugnana is situated within the estates of the Bardi of Vernio.In the fourteenth century the Parish church of Mugnana was renovated in a Romanesque style, but underwent further renovations in the seventeenth century when it was the subject of a radical transformation in a Baroque style.
After a major restoration in 1843, the church has undergone a further characterizing intervention in 1934, the year in which the architect Raffaello Franci, completely rebuilt the Church in a Romanesque Revival style.
