The origins of Rietine are not quite sure ,but the discovery of a tomb would indicate it as an Etruscan settlement (3rd century BC.). The village of Rietine was once owned by the Ricasoli family, probably since their ancestor Azzo of Jeremiah, with an act dating back to 1039, gave away to his brother Ridolfo the rights that had on the tower,the castle and the district of San Marcellino.
