The first written records on the parish church of San Donato were in January when 989 when it is named in an act of donation of land to the Badia a Passignano.
The Church of San Donato in Poggio is one of the few in the territory of Florence to present itself completely unchanged from its original Romanesque style.
The extension of the original building(made around 1870) included also the construction of a bell tower, which in fact is part irregularly in the plan of the Church(as you can see from the photo).
