The Coltibuono church, dedicated to St. Lawrence, according to a legend, was founded by Jeremy of the Firidolfi family. It existed since the 10th century and had always been linked to the Firidolfi family.
Coltibuono, turned into a monastery, held substantial real estate assets, as shown by several documents of the convent, and joined the Vallombrosa congregation in 1095; Ugo Ricasoli built the church bell tower in 1160.
