The Church was founded as a Marian shrine probably already before the year 1000; the original Romanesque style can still be found in the masonry in stone course of gabled façade, preceded by a porch, added also, during the 18th century as a result of the passage of the Church to the Franciscans.
Inside, a Florentine painting portraying the Madonna and child with Saints Nicola di Bari, John the Baptist, Mary Magdalene, and Anthony Abbot, commissioned in 1474 by the Florentine Mariotto Gondi.
